Outlook 2016/2019/365 Problems connecting to Exchange Online mailbox

January 3, 2023 by AJNI No Comments

One or a few users are not able to connect to their mailbox using the newest Outlook version there is? Well the issue might be TLS 1.2 not being active on the user’s side.

Just set this registry key and you should be good to go:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

or

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

DWORD SecureProtocols 00000A80

HEX A80 or decimal 2688 enables TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2, while decimal 640 only enables TLS 1.0 and 1.1.

Convert OST Files to PST with Stellar Converter for OST

November 5, 2022 by AJNI No Comments

This neat software makes it possible to convert an OST file into a fully functional PST file. You can even export single items inside the OST file if you would like to. But what’s an OST file? An OST file gets created by Outlook whenever you create a new Outlook profile. It is the current locally synchronized copy of your mailbox. With this format you cannot do much. A PST file, on the other hand, is a functional archive of an outlook profile. So why is there a need for an OST converter like Stellar Converter for OST?

When your OST file becomes inaccessible or gets corrupt, you are not able to access your mailbox items. The OST file gets corrupted due to several reasons, & you will come across with below-mentioned errors:

  • “Your offline folder file could not be configured \\ComputerName\FolderName\Outlook.ost”
  • “The operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall.”

So in this case, you need to convert the OST file to PST to get access to all your mailbox items.

Steps to convert OST to PST using Stellar Converter for OST

This is what the program looks like once you opened the OST File of your Outlook profile:

You can either save single items:

Or convert the whole file into a PST:

The functional PST is now ready and can be kept somewhere safe:

Other features of Stellar Converter for OST:

  • Converts OST and saves files in PST, MSG, EML, RTF, HTML, and PDF formats.
  • Provides detailed preview of converted mail items & user can save 20 items for free
  • Provides different filter options to only save selected emails as per user need.
  • Converts encrypted OST files.
  • Supports preview and conversion of deleted items.
  • Provides an option to save & reload scanned information.
  • Supports MS Office 365, 2021, 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010, and 2007.
  • Supports Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, and Windows 7.

You can learn more about Stellar Converter for OST and its conversion speed compared to other OST converter software in the market in this benchmark report. It’s an easy-to-use and efficient solution to convert or extract mail items from inaccessible, orphaned, or encrypted OST files of any Outlook version to PST or other supported formats. The software also helps you resolve common Outlook errors, restore lost or deleted emails, and import emails or mail items from an OST file directly to an existing Outlook profile, or live Exchange and Office 365 mailbox.

Network Drives not available from an elevated command prompt (fix)

August 16, 2022 by AJNI No Comments

If UAC is enabled and Admin Approval Mode is enabled for the built-in Administrator for example, you might have problems accessing network drives from an elevated command prompt. This behavior is expected, since in Admin Approval Mode all apps run as a standard user by default. If a program is elevated, it runs under a different session than the non-elevated user.

Microsoft suggests following fixes or workarounds:

  1. Remap network drives via bat file or manually
  2. Create this registry key, which creates a link between both sessions:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System DWORD EnableLinkedConnections 1

Publish Click Once Applications on Citrix Virtual Apps and/or Desktops

August 15, 2022 by AJNI No Comments

Just recently I learned that Microsoft ClickOnce Applications are a pain in the ass and cannot be published as Published Applications the usual way through Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.

Usually the message below shows up before starting or installing the application (which is on a user basis – I absolutely hate that. Thanks for that Microsoft and Developers). If you try to publish the file ending with .application nothing will happen.

Creating a BAT file and publishing that bat file will show the prompt and the desired application will start:

cd /d “C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319”

start dfsvc.exe

start “C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” “http://webserver/app”

This does also work:

start “C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” “\\fileserver\share$\bestsoftware.application”

Remote Desktop Services session freeze with Windows 10/11 Clients

June 1, 2022 by AJNI No Comments

If you are noticing seemingly random RDS session freezing on Windows 10/11 clients, this registry key might help. It disables the UDP protocol for RDP connections, which Microsoft enabled by default since Windows 10 1809/1909. I have had this issue occur on Windows 10 21H2.

HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\Client

DWORD fClientDisableUDP 1

A reboot of the machine was not needed, after closing the RDP session and reconnecting, TCP was being used. You can check which protocol is being used by clicking the symbol at the top:
