Download button inside WIndows Updates greyed out? This could be because of a GPO which sets the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

SetDisableUXWUAccess 0 (1 greyed out)

If you want to apply the settings without restarting your server/computer, restart Windows Updates service.

Roughly a year ago I had an issue with grey screen on Windows Server 2022 with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. A script helped clear out some registry key but there seem to still be problems with sessions with grey screens. There is a new fix that seems to be better and does not clear any registry keys. Instead it activates Citrix Universal DLL Injection. After upgrading the VDA, make sure this value is set:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CtxUvi]
“UviEnabled”=dword:00000001

This helped in my environment.

Having odd issues with the task bar/random task bar freezing on Windows Server 2022 RDS? Or explorer.exe using around 10% of the CPU for every user that is logged in? This might save your day. This issue occurs if you have MS Teams installed on the RDS.

First of all, export the registry path HKLM\SYSTEM\Software\Microsoft\TIP\TestResults\27641370 and look at the file size. If it is around 40MB in size, then you have the same issue.

To resolve the issue, delete the key and disable the TabletInputService service (Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service). Afterwards, take ownership of C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ink\TabTip32.exe and C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\TabTip.exe and rename both executables into TabTip32.exe.orig/TabTip.exe.orig.

After that, reboot your server.

Windows Server 2022 is new and has to be the best Windows Server there is right? Not at all. Microsoft has added a recovery partition (like in Windows Client versions) that prohibits you from expanding the boot disk like you usually would in older Windows Server versions.

Anyway, here are a few diskpart commands that will help you delete the recovery partition and allow you to expand the boot disk:

diskpart

list disk

select disk 0

Make sure partition 4 is the 523MB Recovery partition

select partition 4

delete partition override
